From the Board...

RISHP would like to hear your comments, concerns, and questions on the ASHP Proposed Policies. Policies can be viewed at http://www.ashp.org/ashponline/index.cfm.

Some of the policies addressed by the Councils include:

  • standardization of pharmacy technician training;
  • defining the role of a pharmacy intern vs. pharmacy technician;
  • collaboration of health-system teaching sites and colleges of pharmacy;
  • use of medications brought to hospital or clinic by patient or caregiver
  • development of nationally standardized drug concentrations for high-risk continuous infusions;
  • education of pharmacists on the proper use of biologic therapies;
  • pharmacy services in the Emergency Department;
  • declaration of all excipients used in drug products on the label;
  • fully funded prescription drug program for eligible Medicare beneficiaries;
  • regulation of dietary supplements by the FDA;
  • pharmacist-to-technician and pharmacist-to-patient ratios;
  • pharmacists role in anticoagulation management;
  • opposition of blanket restriction on generic substitution.

These policies will be voted on at the ASHP annual meeting.  If you are a member of ASHP, you can post your comments on their website.  Otherwise please contact Sue Plante or Martha Roberts by June 6th, 2008.  RISHP also encourages you to submit an idea for a new policy.
