The society’s most prestigious award honors a health system pharmacist practicing in Rhode Island who has displayed outstanding qualities of leadership, initiative and incentive in dedication to the ideals of the practice of pharmacy. Any RISHP member can submit a nomination and candidates need not be RISHP members to be nominated.
2010 Recipient - Bart Grimes
The recipient should meet the requirements of as many of the following as possible: displayed outstanding ability in having practiced and promoted pharmacy in the State of Rhode Island’s Health-System demonstrated professional motivation demonstrated professional organization involvement (RISHP, ASHP, APHA, RIPA, etc.) contributed to the advancement of education in pharmacy within the State of Rhode Island’s Health-System extended pharmacy services in a Health-System to improve patient care actively participated in promoting community health
Nomination Info:
Any member of RISHP may submit the name of a nominee to the Chair of the Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award Committee. Names may be submitted until the designated due date. The Candidate’s Curriculum Vitae and/or any other pertinent information must accompany the letter of nomination. Candidates need not be members of RISHP in order to be nominated for the award. Anonymous nominations will not be considered. Please submit nominiations to Bart Grimes (bgrimes@lifespan.org)
Bill Pires New Practitioner Award: The award is given to a RISHP pharmacist working in the health system setting who demonstrates professionalism and an interest in expanding the role of the pharmacist in patient care who has less than 5 years of service in health system pharmacy. The award is a one year paid membership to ASHP or if the recipient is already an ASHP member, the equivalent value to spend in the ASHP Bookstore for educational materials of their choice. The award has been generously funded by Leslie Pires, Pharm.D., MS.
2011 Recipient -Kwen Heun Brian Leung
This award honors a pharmacy technician practicing in the health system who has made significant contributions to pharmacy technician practice and the community. The pharmacy technician must show leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm for advancing the role of the pharmacy technician in the health system. Candidates must be employed as a pharmacy technician in a health system in RI but need not be a member of RISHP to be eligible. The award is an engraved plaque and a year's paid membership to RISHP.
2011 Recipient - Lisa Coleman, CPhT - Rhode Island Hospital
Louis P. Jeffrey Student Scholarship: This award was established in 1996 as an honor to Louis P. Jeffrey. The award is given annually to a pharmacy student who demonstrates leadership qualities and involvement/participation in professional society activities. The award is a cash scholarship.
The essay, along with a listing of organizational activities, must be submitted by December 1st to the current president-elect of RISHP. The RISHP Board of Directors and Awards Committee choose the award recipient. A scholarship in the amount of $250.00 will be presented at the Annual Installation Dinner held in January of every year. 2011 Recipient - Lauren Pelkey - University of Rhode Island
Gilberti Student Scholarship: The Gilberti Award was started in 1970 to honor Louis Gilberti, a pharmacist at the State Hospital who was also past president and a very active member of RISHP. This award goes to a University of Rhode Island student interested in hospital pharmacy with high scholastic standing.
The award recipient is chosen by URI faculty.
2011 Recipient - Thomas Bertha - University of Rhode Island
Bob Goulet Student Award: This scholarship was established as a tribute to Robert Goulet who at the time of his untimely death was president-elect for the Board of Directors of RISHP.
